What is an attunement?
An attunement is a ritual perfomed by the (Reiki) master who has channeled (or has been attuned to) the energies of a specific vibration and regularly works with those energies. The ritual is created by the (Reiki) master for the recipient so that they can access the vibrations to work with themselves. It is a powerful energetic mode of healing.
Attunements are used in many spiritual and energy healing systems and have become more widely available and popular with the teachings of Reiki by Usui Sensei and others. Usui gave both in-person and distant attunements to his students on a regular basis.
An attunement, whether given in-person or remotely, opens your own energy system to the vibrations of the specific energies. Once you have been attuned, you are able to channel this energy yourself quickly and easily. Using the energies of the attunement on a regular basis, enhances your healing abilities and spiritual development.
The attunement remains with you for life once you have connected with it. If you have a distant attunement, you can connect with the energies again at any time in the future.
Do distant attunements work?
As with distant healing, distant attunements work in a similar way.
In Reiki, healing goes to where it is needed and the same when performing attunements. Each of us receives the energies in our own way, whether there is a ‘master’ standing in front of us or whether they are many miles away. The ‘master’ is simply the channel who performs the ritual and the recipient receives the energies when they are ready and in the most appropriate way for them.
Feedback from students and clients has always confirmed that the attunement has worked. Some of the experiences have included:
- Sensations such as feeling warm, cold, tingling hands etc.
- Seeing colours or flashes of light
- Feeling calmer, more at peace with the self and others
- Connecting more easily with others
- More peaceful sleep
- Increased intuition
However, some recipients do not experience anything at all. This is completely natural – we are all different. Following the instructions and given time for the process, the attunement will be received. It is important that the energies of the attunement are used often in order to continue to develop them. Of course, you can connect with the distant attunement energies as often as you wish.
After the attunement – Aftercare
As with any treatment or attunement, it is important that you keep yourself hydrated, eat light meals, avoid alcohol, rest and relax afterwards and take things steady for the following 24 hours to allow the energies to settle. It is always great to give yourself a Reiki or other healing treatment afterwards.
