Setting Intentions with Reiki and Meditation

15 January 2025 By ReikiJane

The start of a new year is a time of renewal and possibility. It’s an opportunity to reflect on what you want to release, what you wish to embrace, and how you can create a positive foundation for the months ahead. Combining Reiki and meditation offers a powerful way to align your energy, clarify your intentions, and manifest meaningful changes. These practices not only help focus your mind but also connect you with the universal flow of energy, allowing your goals to unfold naturally and harmoniously.

Why Reiki and Meditation?
Combining Reiki with meditation will assist you in setting and empowering your intentions for the year.  The Reiki energy will help you to clear any blockages that hold you back, restoring balance in mind, body and spirit.  In turn, you will feel more centred and open to new possibilities.  Meditation brings about mindfulness and self-awareness. It quiets the mental chatter, enabling you to hear your inner guidance. When combined, Reiki and meditation amplify each other’s effects, creating a powerful synergy that enhances your ability to set and achieve meaningful intentions.

Preparing for Intention Setting
Before diving into the practices, set aside a quiet, comfortable space where you won’t be disturbed. Gather items that support your practice, such as candles, crystals, or calming essential oils. Take a few minutes to reflect on the past year. What are you grateful for? What challenges did you overcome and what lessons did you learn? This reflection time helps to clear the old and create space for the new energy you want to invite into your life.

How to Use Reiki and Meditation for Intention Setting1. Ground Yourself with Meditation
Begin by sitting in a comfortable position. Close your eyes and take several deep breaths, inhaling through your nose and exhaling through your mouth. Visualise roots extending from the base of your spine into the earth, anchoring you firmly in the present moment. As you continue to breathe, allow your thoughts to settle, focusing on the rhythm of your breath.

2. Connect with Reiki Energy
Place your hands over your heart or on your knees in a comfortable position. If you’re Reiki attuned, activate the energy by drawing or visualising the Cho Ku Rei (Power Symbol), which enhances the flow of Reiki energy. Visualise a warm, golden light emanating from the symbol, filling your entire being. If you practice Karuna Reiki, you can also use the Zonar symbol to clear emotional or karmic blocks, preparing your energy field to receive new intentions. For those not attuned to Reiki, simply set the intention to connect with universal life force energy and visualise yourself enveloped in healing light.

3. Set Your Intention
Once you feel centred, bring your intention to mind. Be specific and frame it positively. For example, say

“I welcome financial abundance and security into my life,” rather than focusing on lack or worry.

See your intention as if it has already manifested. Use the power of VAKOG to bring colour and feeling to the intention:

V = Visualise – what does the intention look like?  See the colours, movement, people, etc., include anything that gives you a positive feeling of truly experiencing the outcome of the intention.

A = Auditory – what sounds do you hear when you have achieved your goal?

K = Kinesthetic – what can you touch, how does it feel?

O = Olfactory – are there any associated scents or smells with the outcome?

G = Gustatory – are there any tastes linked to the intention (such as tasting a glass of champagne)?

To amplify the process, draw the Sei He Ki (Mental/Emotional Symbol) in your mind’s eye or over your intention, balancing emotional energy and deepening your connection to your goal.

If working with Karuna Reiki, consider using the Harth symbol to infuse your intention with unconditional love and compassion, or Shanti to bring peace and trust into the process.

4.  Empower Your Intention with Reiki Symbols
Once your intention feels clear, empower it further by visualising the Cho Ku Rei over your intention. This amplifies and directs the energy toward manifestation. You can also draw the Dai Ko Myo (Master Symbol) if you’re attuned to it, connecting your intention to the highest universal energies. For Karuna Reiki practitioners, layering symbols such as Rama (to ground the energy into the physical plane) or Om (to connect your intention with spiritual consciousness) can deepen the process. Draw or visualise these symbols over your intention and imagine them glowing brightly, energising and anchoring your goal.

5.  Seal Your Intention with Reiki Energy
Send Reiki energy to your intention by placing your hands over it (if written down) or simply visualising it in your mind’s eye. Feel the symbols radiating energy into your goal, creating a protective and empowering energetic field around it. Trust that the energy is working for your highest good.

6.  Close Your Session with Gratitude
End your session by congratulating yourself for dedicating time to this practice and expressing gratitude to the universal energy for its guidance and support. Visualise yourself drawing the Cho Ku Rei one last time over your aura, sealing the session with protection and balance. Ground yourself and take a few deep breaths before gently opening your eyes.I hope you found the above helpful and that you might continue to take a few minutes of your day to focus on your intentions with clarity and positive vibrations. If you have any questions or you would like further information about my courses, workshops or treatments, please email me:  jane@reikijane.co.uk.
